Travis & Nicole are the first out from Jabel Hafeet at 12:38am and they're off to Bandung, Indonesia where they will need to find the Ram Arena in a nearby village. Jason & Amy are close behind, followed by Tim & Marie who leave at 1:15am. Of course Marie has to point out that Tim makes more mistakes than her . . . I agree, like choosing her as a racemate.
At the airport Travis & Nicole find out that the earliest flight to Indonesia is a milk run through Singapore and it's going to allow all the teams to catch up. Not really a big surprise but it could have been more interesting as Leo & Jamal actually slept in. Fortunately they woke 1 minute before their scheduled departure to meet the IceQueens as they were leaving the hotel for the clue box just after 2:00am.
Later that morning, while waiting around the airport, Travis & Nicole decide it's time to talk with Leo & Jamal about why they were U-Turned. The ERDocs think the Afghanimals can't be believed, and they lied about u-turning Adam & Brandon. Jamal figures that eventually Travis & Nicole will crack under the pressure. Well, somebody will.
Everyone arrives in Bandung, Indonesia, (I wonder if anyone other than the cameraman noticed the stilt-walking monkey) finds a cab that will take them to the village and searches for their next clue, which Travis & Nicole find first. Head Butting Rams; select two rams from a truck and take them to the Ram Arena, once they butt heads return them to the truck to get the next clue.
Ally & Ashley are right behind the ERDocs, but Travis & Nicole finished quick and get their next clue first. They need to make their way to Rancaekek Station and then travel by train back to Bandung where they'll find their next clue on the platform. Ally & Ashley finished just as Leo & Jamal start and then pass Jason & Amy as they head to the station.
Ally & Ashley find the train station almost at the same time as Travis & Nicole and they're back to Bandung. Train leaves in twelve minutes and the IceQueens are so happy to be at the front of the pack for a change. Travis tells them that he & Nicole will tell them the truth, but about what? Travis is starting to get a little irritating this leg and I wonder if he's been like this all along and they've just edited that part out to make him look good.
The last two teams complete the Ram task but Tim & Marie's taxi broke down and caused them a short delay, which Jason figures is karma for stealing their taxi in the sixth leg. Leo & Jamal managed to make it to the station before the train left, but Jason and Amy were not so lucky. While they were getting their tickets the train was pulling away and they're going to be stuck on the next train, an hour behind the others, with Pinky & Brain. Sorry about that.
The last two teams are a little concerned because being an hour behind is never a good thing. They figure it's between the two of them for last place and at this point it looks like they could be right, but with a Detour and a Roadblock still ahead . . . it's still early in the leg. Of course, when you run the race you have no idea what's ahead so they're looking a little stressed.
That hour gives the first three teams a nice lead which should be helpful as they return to Bandung and find this week's Detour: For The Elephants; gather food (8 watermelons, 2 bunches of bananas, 1 dozen sweet potatoes and 5 stalks of sugarcane) from the local market, transport it to the zoo by cab, find a marked trolley, find the elephants, and then feed an elephant, . . . Seems like a lot of work to me. I think Wayne and I would have chosen . . . For the Birds; pick a pair of lovebirds from Kios Pak Dedi and get them to a birdsong Grand Prix arena where you encourage them to sing. Sounds a helluva lot easier.
Ally & Ashley are thinking about doing the birds but then decide to feed the Elephant when their cab driver tells them the zoo is closer. Meanwhile Nicole & Travis decide to make birds sing. When the IceQueens head to the zoo looking for their marked trolley it dawns on me that someone hasn't read their clue. The Afghanimals actually read the clue this time and go to the market to gather the food first, loading everything into a nearby cab without getting killed in traffic, while Travis & Nicole went to the bird market looking for anyone who speaks English to pick their birds, then off to the challenge arena.
Ally & Ashley can't find the main entrance, or their trolleys, as they run aimlessly around the zoo. Meanwhile, Leo & Jamal have loaded their cab and are headed towards the girls, while Travis & Nicole have made their way to the Grand Prix. Jason & Amy and Tim & Marie finally managed to get on their train and they're way behind at this point.
Or maybe not because Ally & Ashley finally located the entrance but figure out they're missing something and decide to read the clue again. Oh yeah, they need to gather the food first. Off to the market go the IceQueens as Leo & Jamal pull right up to the marked trolleys at the zoo. They were smart enough to use the head scarves they got in Abu Dhabi to tie up the fruit, now all they need to do is find the elephants.
Travis & Nicole had no problem getting their birds to the Grand Prix and getting them to sing and they receive their next clue which leads them to Saung Angklung Udjo. They're energized and happy as they jump into a cab and head out . . . while the girls let their cab go at the market, only to realize they need a cab to get back to the zoo. Duh!
Leo & Jamal are still looking for elephants.
The last two teams arrive and both teams decide to feed the elephants. Again, why would a team want to do all that work when two birds are really light and most birds always sing. Oh, right, Marie wanted to feed an elephant. Well, check that one off the bucket list.
The IceQueens turn on each other about their decision when they figure out the sugar cane won't fit in the cab. Apparently they're not big on problem solving . . . why not just hold the sugarcane against the side of the car? Or the roof? They head off without it and that's not gonna help as they argue about switching to the birds. They stick to the elephant task even though Ashley wanted to do the birds but Ally wanted to . . . well, you get the idea. Eventually everybody has that moment when they just kinda lose it.
Leo & Jamal eventually find the elephant and it took no time to finish feeding him. Pretty easy since, by then the poor elephant was starving. Wrestling with the elephant over sugarcane was wasting time, but it was fun. They meet Ally & Ashley just as they arrive (without their sugarcane) and loan them a scarf to help bundle the food. To bad they didn't have an extra five stalks of sugarcane.
Travis & Nicole arrive at Saung Angklung Udjo to find this week's Roadblock; assemble a traditional musical instrument called an Angklung correctly from the bamboo poles supplied and play a complete octave to receive their next clue. Nicole decides to do this one despite Travis being more musical and I'm thinking this is a big mistake. Travis even asks Nicole if she knows what an octave is but he doesn't bother to explain it to her which would've helped. They feel they have enough of a lead for her to try but I'm not so sure they do?
Amy & Jason use a blanket they've been carrying around (why?) to pack up their food and they're off while Tim overloads himself with watermelons. These teams are neck and neck as they race off to the zoo.
Leo arrives at the Roadblock and the Afghanimals start to dance. They may be a little shifty, maybe even dishonest, but they're fun and they're enjoying themselves. Now the pressure is on for Nicole to actually build the Angklung and Leo tries to get the kids to help him but they know better. Nicole starts to panic and makes her Angklung with only four notes, not eight. So much for knowing what an octave is.
As Ally & Ashley head back for sugarcane they pass Jason & Amy arriving at the zoo. That's not good. Jason & Amy finish and pass Tim & Marie who also finish before the IceQueens return with their sugarcane. Big, huge, mistake for the IceQueens. From first to last, just like that.
At the roadblock, Nicole still can't get an octave but Leo thinks he's got it. Nicole presents hers to the kids and the tune is all over the place so Leo presents his for play and he's sure it's right. It's not. Close but not close enough. Tim & Marie arrive and even though they have a system that trades off who does the roadblock they decide, since it sounds musical, Tim's doing it instead of Marie. Good call on their part.
Ally & Ashley finally feed their elephant and are now in last place . . . so far. That could change since Nicole still can't get an octave and can't figure out what she's doing wrong. Leo gets it right after a quick adjustment and he and Jamal receive their next clue. Jamal hollers for Leo to destroy his instrument so nobody else can see how it's built and he sees Nicole heading over to sneak a peek. Leo has to run around with Nicole trying to see what he did and it's even funnier when the producers intercut this scene with a conversation with Travis & Nicole about playing an honest game and setting a good example. Not so much at the moment.
There's no way that Leo is going to help her after being U-Turned and Nicole eventually gives up and runs back to hers while Leo disassembles his Angklung. Travis is starting to realize that they needed a much larger lead for Nicole to be doing this task. While she's heading back to try again, Tim has completed his and Nicole tries to see what he did as he runs past her for judging. Tim made it look easy and he and Marie receive the next clue and are right behind the Afghanimals.
Teams must now make their way to the Bosscha Observatory, home to Indonesia's oldest astronomical telescope and the Pit Stop for this leg of the race. Marie's so glad she made Tim do that Roadblock and now it's a race to the mat.
Leo & Jamal are Team #1 while Tim & Marie arrive right behind then to be Team #2. Leo & Jamal also win $7500.00 each to enjoy after the race. It's a bit of a step down from a brand new Ford but it's better than free watermelon. Amy completes her instrument while Nicole looks all confused and Travis is starting to get upset. Amy's is right and she gets the next clue but before she leaves she goes back to help Nicole.Jason & Amy are actually playing a much more honest game than the ERDocs and they know they're not going to be last but I'm still not sure I'd have gone back to help. When Ally & Ashley arrive she decides that's enough help and Jason starts calling for them to leave. Nicole manages to build the Angklung and gets the clue and they head off before Ally & Ashley. Forty minutes to figure out an octave, Travis is pissed and he makes sure his wife knows it. What a nice guy.
Jason & Amy are Team #3 and Travis & Nicole show join them on the mat for Team #4. Nicole finally remembers to thank Amy for her help and Phil notes that Travis looks pretty beaten and he explains it's been a rough day. Well, at least they weren't last.
However, the IceQueens know they're in last place but they keep at it in the hopes that it's a non-elimination leg. They get the clue and head to the Pit Stop to be told that they are Team #5 and after seven countries they still have a smile on their face as they learn they've been eliminated. Realistically it probably should have been Travis & Nicole but because of the relationship they made with Jason & Amy it wasn't. Not sure that's fair, but that's the way it works.
Next week Marie finally meets her match in a cobra (poor cobra), the boys start wearing makeup, and Leo & Jamal get lost in the field. Probably not the first time. See you all next week.
