Having completely surprised themselves by winning the last leg of the race, Dujean & Leilani are the first to depart at 4:16 pm. All teams are now on their way to Delhi, a city of 18,000,000 people and the capital of India. We get some interesting footage of Dujean & Leilani explaining their relationship and that could be their farewell edit if they make any mistakes on this leg. It's not always the case but there's always a bit of foreshadowing in how things are edited.
All teams will have $150US on their BMO CashCard and I always wonder what that amount is actually being used for. It's never the same amount and it's highly unlikely that most of the places they go would accept the card, especially tuktuks.
Nick & Matt are right behind them, followed by Brent & Sean who managed to slip into third place on the last leg. Simi & Ope are close behind the Designers and then, bringing up the rear at 4:45 pm is Gino & Jesse in an unusual last place position. That's all teams within 30 minutes of each other so we know this is going to be tightly edited and fast paced.
When the teams arrive in Delhi they need to make their way to Ghazipur Fish Market to find their next clue. When they arrive at the market its "Time To Use Your Head"; teams must deliver 20 live catfish each in a traditional basket carried on their head. Simi & Ope managed to get there first but those fish are not only alive but slimy and they don't want to be carried anywhere by anyone.
Nick thinks he can just grab the fish one at a time and drop them in his basket, but no such luck. Neither he nor Matt have figured out they need to cover the basket, which is something Simi figured out pretty quickly. Eventually they follow her lead but not before losing a few fish on the streets.
Dujean & Leilani and Gino & Jesse arrive and find the same problems as the first two teams handling those catfish. Add in the smell of the fish, the heat, and all that slime dripping into your face and I'm sure nobody is enjoying this task. Despite arriving second Nick & Matt are out first as Simi & Ope finish up their deliveries and are close behind. Brent & Sean are now bring up the rear arriving at the Fish Market but they look shocked that the fish are still alive.
Having completed their deliveries, Nick & Matt are first to the Roadblock: "Who Wants A Headstart"; one team member must tie three different turbans on the three local men after watching a demonstration of each technique. Matt steps up for the challenge and hopes he has time to get it done before anyone else arrives.
Back at the fish market I thought Brent & Sean were from the maritimes, why on earth are they so afraid of fish. They also didn't bother to cover the baskets, but I think the fish are just trying to get away from Sean's high pitched scream. Somehow I don't think Wayne or I would have that problem, we've both fished enough to not scream. I would hope.
Simi & Ope hit the Roadblock and Ope steps up to the challenge. Nick was hoping they got lost and even admits it to Simi, who realizes he's only half joking. Matt's first turban is almost done until it slides off. Like Nick, he's having fun with it, even though he hasn't a clue what he's doing. Brent & Sean are having much less fun but at least they've finished the fish delivery.
When Gino & Jesse arrive at the Roadblock, Gino decides he can wrap the turbans, as does Dujean right behind him. No surprise that both Simi and Leilani think they should've been the ones doing the wraps but Nick is glad that the girls aren't doing it as that gives Matt a fighting chance. Gino is focusing on the technique while over on the side Nick is wondering where Brent & Sean are. He should stop wondering as Sean is currently vomiting continuously over the side of the tuktuk. They eventually arrive at the Roadblock after the driver stops to clean his ride.
When Brent & Sean arrive Sean decides to do the task and Brent assures us that Sean knows his way around a scarf. Why am I not surprised. Matt called for a check and got 1out of 3, then Gino called for a check and also got 1 out of 3. Unfortunately Ope has misread his clue and wrapped all three men with the same turban style and now he needs to start again.
Matt calls for another check and he's done it. He and Nick are now off to M-Block Market in Greater Kailash to find a garden with their next clue. Gino calls for a check and they're right on the Wrestler's tails. However, when Ope calls for a check he's a little disappointed to find out he failed them all. Dujean calls for a check and gets 2 out of 3, while Sean gets 0 out of 3. So much for his way with scarves.
Nick & Matt arrive at M-Block Market, find the cluebox and then try to avoid Gino & Jesse as they calmly duck around a corner before they read the clue. Now that's something Wayne & I would do. Time for the Detour: Spice It or Slam It.
In Spice It, teams must make their way to the oldest market in India and then grind 100 grams of chiles in a mortar and pestle to get their next clue. In Slam It, teams must find a wrestling club and then learn and perform seven moves in order in front of a judge to get the next clue. An easy choice for Nick & Matt who didn't think they'd ever see a wrestling challenge during the race, while Gino & Jesse continue to search for the clue box.
Back with the wraps, Ope gets all three of his turbans on his next attempt and off they go, but not before he and his daughter perform a little victory dance. Theres just Dujean and Sean left with the wraps, and then . . . it was just Sean. Don't throw up dude. I know the pressure is on but keep it together for the sake of that poor guy's head.
Gino & Jesse find the Detour clue and also choose Slam It. When they arrive they find Nick & Matt already there and Nick & Matt know that Gino & Jesse could beat them in a footrace so they need to get through this before the brothers do and get out of there. That shouldn't be too hard, but the brothers have proven themselves to be a quick study so it's game on.
Simi & Ope and Dujean & Leilani both choose Slam It when they read the clue as Sean finishes his wraps. He's not looking forward to another tuktuk ride, but I'm pretty sure he also doesn't want to be eliminated.
Leilani is looking at the wrestling task as therapy for her to take down Dujean. It's a great way for her to let off a little steam without looking like the bad girl. Meanwhile, Simi & Ope are having trouble getting the moves down and Ope's back isn't up to the challenge so they decide to switch to Spice It. It wouldn't do either of them any good if he threw his back out in a challenge and had to stop racing so I guess it's the right choice.
Simi & Ope have to switch from a tuktuk to a rickshaw in order to get to the market. At least Brent & Sean chose Spice It from the start and hopped into a rickshaw at the beginning. When their driver wanted to give them the scenic tour Sean told him not to. Probably a good call.
Nick & Matt are ready to perform for the judge and had no problem getting through it. No surprise there. They're now on their way to Humayan's Tomb, the inspiration for the Taj Mahal and the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.
Arriving at the market, Brent & Sean see Simi & Ope and feel they can beat them. I guess that depends on how much they can handle the chiles. Back in the arena, Dujean & Leilani blow the third move and need to start again.
As I predicted, those crushed chiles are not easy to deal with. When Ope takes their bowl to be weighed he's told they need to remove the husks of the seeds so he decides to blow them out of the bowl. A great way to pepper spray yourself in the face my friend. What were you thinking? Then again, Brent & Sean are doing that while they crush the chiles.
At Humayan's Tomb it's a race to the Pit Stop as Nick & Matt are up against Gino & Jesse in that dreaded footrace. When they hit the mat first Jon tells Nick & Matt they're Team Number 1 and they have also won a trip to Amsterdam and gas for a year. No more second place for the Wrestlers, at least not this leg. Gino & Jesse are Team Number 2 and really want Nick & Matt gone, but that's just because they don't like coming in second and feel the Wrestlers are their only competition.
Simi & Ope and Brent & Sean keep getting their bowls weighed but it's Brent & Sean who hit the 100 grams first, grab the next clue and head out. Dujean & Leilani are still trying their moves and they've done it so it could be close, as Simi & Ope also hit 100 grams just a few minutes behind the Designers. Both Brent & Sean and Simi & Ope race out of the market to get a cab and neither one has any idea where the other three teams are.
Dujean & Leilani are already on foot, as are Simi & Ope and it's . . . Simi & Ope as Team Number 3 and Dujean & Leilani walk up behind them at the mat as Team Number 4. That leaves Brent & Sean as the last team to arrive. Here come the tears from Sean again when Jon asks if they're disappointed. Sure they are, they wanted to win, but it's tIme for some good karma as Jon tells them that this is a non-elimination leg and they both break into tears. Okay, enough crying, dammit. Jon also tells them they'll need to perform a Speed Bump at some point during the next leg but I think they're okay with that.
It was indeed a fast paced episode with some really good editing this week. Next week it's time for the teams to head outta Delhi and race for Penticton, BC where they'll find themselves challenged on and off the water and face another Double U-Turn. I love Penticton and have spent many summers on the beaches there. It won't be anywhere near as hot as India, especially since it was filmed back in May, but it'll be fun. I'm looking forward to it.
Speaking of which, you can look forward to our video recap being up by the weekend, just in time for the racers to enjoy it. We've really enjoyed doing this season's videos from the Druid and hope they've enjoyed having us as much as we've enjoyed being there. With the teams returning to Canada it's getting down to the wire and there are only a few weeks left. Fortunately we'll be right here to review those episodes in our own unique fashion. Until that time.
