We started the race typically, leaving one part of the world, Dubai, and flying to another, Bali. From the dry desert heat to the humid tropical heat. Personally, I'd take dry desert or humid tropical: I can get very sweaty. All teams are on the same flight but are staggered outta customs. The Frisbees Boys and Sheri and Cole are first. And the first task, once they book their times, isn't a Detour or a Roadblock, it's just a task. Bring one set of offerings to one temple, pick up another set of offerings and take that one to other temple. Of course, the second set of offerings is giant snake for every racer.
Gord and I would have no problem with the snakes cause we're tough dudes. Or rather, we're just old and if it's fight to the death between us the snake, the snake is going to lose. But the snakes were probably feed before teams picked them up. I really liked Zach's freak out mode during the snake part of the task. So far, he's been calm, cool and collected through most of the race, even when they've screwed up. But put a snake around his neck and he's a goner, It was especially funny to see him try to wash the snake feeling off his body with the sea water. The only problem with the task is teams figuring which temple was first. There was a bit of confusion there.
Then off to a Roadblock, which looked tough. Bring in a bunch of seawater, take it over a plot of sand, wash rinse, repeat. Then scrap some salt and pack into tiny, little bags. Your basic gross motor heavy lifting followed by some fine motor skills. Not a fun task as seen by all teams, especially Rachel. Still, she toughed it out and got it done. The Frisbee Boys came into the task first but due to some mistakes on packing the salt bags, lost their lead. Use the Express Pass you say? But no, the boys used it on a fairly easy task last leg, a fact that only Burnie and Ashley know and smartly, don't share.
With the task done, teams are expecting a Detour, cause that's the format. And here's where the producers mix things up. It's another Roadblock, make a big giant kite. (Cool stuff). Seems that will make things hard for Kurt and Brodie. Apparently, Kurt has done most of the Roadblocks so far, save for the one that Brodie had to use the Express Pass for. So that's doesn't bode well. And it doesn't. They fall way back as team after team gets their kites completed. Even Sheri and Cole who had to do the speed bump blow past them. Seemed like a bit tougher Speed Bump for, make and sell 10 meals, and then eat one on your own. Although the eating part seemed tougher. Indonesian food can be spicy.
Side note: Either Gord and I could have handled any of the tasks this leg. They would be hard, but we wouldn't struggle to the point of losing, cause at our age, we've done a lot of tough stuff, like raise kids, work freelance and a bunch of other stuff Maybe Gord could have done the kite better but we could have gone either way. The Speed Bump would have been no problem, we like interesting food.
Brodie seemed completely clueless in the kite task and yeah, other teams suggested the use of the Express Pass. But again, they didn't because they didn't have one. A fact that other teams have figured out. Despite a solid showing by Burnie and Ashley, it's Tyler and Korey who come back and win another first place. B and A are hitting second, again. Which is fine because it's the last leg that counts. I'm expecting them in the final 3. But it's only a matter of a minute or so between second last, Kurt and Brodie and last, Zach and Rachel. If Brodie has to do all the Roadblocks for the rest of the race and does them the way he did this one, and the one in Dubai, those guys are out.
Sorry to see Zach and Rachel go, I really liked them, how they treated each other with respect and didn't lose their head, except for the bit about the snake. Next week, we're still in Indonesia but that's not too bad. It's a huge country, thousands of islands so it's not like doing another episode in the same city. Let's see if the rest of the legs continue the great these last four have.
