And hurrah, they have to fly to Bandung, Indonesia, find the Ram Arena in a nearby village to get their next clue. And now, the Docs wanna be a beacon for God's light to whatever so you don't have lie, cheat or steal to win the race. That's nice but you don't really need god to tell you not to lie, cheat or steal; that's just being a good human being. However, maybe this is a foreshadow of things to come. Maybe they will resort to lyin', cheatin' or stealin' to get past a task or two. Or maybe this is one of those bits where the show some background on a team because they will be eliminated. We'll see. Kind of interested is that this is the first time we've seen them talked about their religion and prayed before the leg. Gotta be a reason why.
So Jason and Amy follow behind, saying they want to play the same game as Nicole and Travis. Jason makes some kind of joke I didn't get, but let's move on and see Tim and Marie leave not long after. Based on the times, I think everybody will fly out at the same time. Marie belittles Tim again and they argue because she thinks she's always right so he should just shut up. He should just walk away after the race.
The Docs arrive and get some kind of milk run to Bangkok, Sinagpore and Bandung. Once they get in we cut to the Afghanimals coming out of their room less than a minute before they have to leave. They pretend they waited for the Ice Girls but they are just late. Not a good thing. So they both leave at 2:06 am. The boys are also looking to confront the Docs. And that happens at the airport as they wait for flights. More bits about how the Docs play the game, etc. And the Afghanimals are keen to see the Docs break. Wonder who will break first?
So all teams are headed to Bandung and arrive at the same time. The Docs are the first to leave, followed by the Ice Girls, the Afghanimals, then Tim and Marie with Jason and Amy trailing behind. The Docs get to the clue first and must search for trucks carrying head butting rams, grab two and then take them to a traditional festival. Once the rams have butted heads, they must load them back onto the truck. Methinks the metal heads from Season 21 would have liked this headbanging task.
It doesn't take that long for the Docs and the Ice Girls to get the task done. The next clue tells them to get to Rancaekek Station and then travel by train back to Bandung. Their next clue will be on the platform. The Docs leave just as the Afghanimals arrive. Tim and Marie get theirs as well. Nice to see the boys still having fun so many legs in. Regardless of how I might think about some of the mistakes they've made (like not reading clues or being late for their departure), they are still enjoying themselves. Which is key to staying in for such a long time.
I won't make the obvious comment about Tim and Marie's and butting heads (guess I just did) but they get done followed by Jason and Amy. The Afghanimals are keen to catch up with the teams at the train station. When the Ice Girls and the Docs arrive, they find out the train will leave in 12 minutes so not sure if the boys will get there in time. But on the train, Travis has to bring up how good they are by telling the girls they'll always tell them the truth. This is starting to get annoying.
Back at the Ram Arena, the taxi driving the Exes breaks down. So Jason and Amy get ahead of them. The Daters see this as karma for when their taxi was stolen. But the Afghanimals get to the train before it leaves, much to the chagrin of the Docs. Guess the word we're all looking for is: awkward. But the boys do help by convincing the train to leave before Jason and Amy get on. So the Docs should thank them because that means the final two teams are an hour behind. But they see it as more evil plotting by the boys.
At the platform, it's a Detour, for the Elephants or For the Birds. In Elephants, teams must head to a market, get eight watermelons, two bunches of bananas, a dozen sweet potatoes and five stalks of sugar cane, and then get to Bandung Zoo. After transporting the food on a trolly, they must feed the elephants. In Birds, teams must pick up a pair of matching birds from the market, deliver them to bird song jamboree and encourage their birds to sing. Once the birds sing, they get the clues. Hmmm, carrying two tiny birds and getting them to sing or carrying a big pile of stuff to feed to elephants? I think Gord and I would pick the songbird thing cause we're lazy and we do enough shopping and carrying and feeding at home.
The Afghanimals and the Ice Girls pick elephants while the Docs pick the birds. Unfortunately, the girls head to the zoo first before they get their stuff. The boys head to the market and load as much stuff into the cab. The Docs head to the market and wander through, asking if anybody speaks English so they can get their birds. But they find the bird place and head to the jamboree. Meanwhile the girls are wandering through the zoo, also looking for someone to speak English when they should actually read their clue correctly and find out what they are supposed to do.
Back at the market, the boys get everything loaded including sticking the stalks out the window. And the Docs are at the arena, hanging their birds on hooks and try to get their birds to sing. The final two teams are just getting on the train. And finally, the Ice Girls re-read their clue and figure that they are supposed to get the food first and then bring it to the marked trolley, not the other way around. So off to the market, to the market, to the market.
The Afghanimals arrive at the zoo with their stuff, load things onto the trolley and head in. Good for the boys to keep their scarves from the Middle East cause it helps prevent the fruit from rolling off. The Docs also get their birds to sing and are done the task, which means I was right in predicting which task would be easier. It seemed pretty obvious. The Docs celebrate this by jumping and screaming with joy, which Tarvis says is the first time he's done this in the race. That's kind of sad. All that praying but no joy till now. Probably will be short-lived, though Anyway, the next clue is to make their way to the Saung Angklung Udjo and find their next clue.
Back at the market, the Ice Girls make another mistake by not asking their cab to wait. So they have to find another one before they get the goods from the market. Time's awastin' Girls. The Afghanimals are also walking around the zoo, looking for elephants. Meanwhile, the final two teams arrive at the station and both pick the elephants? Come on, why carry a pile a stuff when you can just carry a couple of birds? Especially in the heat of Indonesia. Oh well. Marie hopes that one of the other teams has screwed up.
And one team has. The Ice Girls can't figure out how to get the sugar cane into the cab so they argue about switching. But instead, they decide to make two trips, leaving the sugar behind. And more arguing. Ice Girls getting a bit cold. (Yes, I know it's an obvious statement.) Finally, the Afghanimals find the elephants and feed them. Or rather the elephants grab the food out of their hands. But they get it done and get the clue. And they help the Ice Girls by giving them a scarf to wrap up their watermelons.
The next clue for the Docs is a Roadblock and the team member must properly assembly an Indonesian instrument called an Anglung. Some kind of percussion thing. Probably be me since I'm a drummer. I thought it would also be obvious that Travis take it on, cause he's a musician, but Nicole jumps in. They are confident they'll get it done fast. But Travis is realizing she doesn't understand each note must be different in size in order to create an octave.
Jason and Amy use a blanket to get all the stuff and then Jason holds the stalks on the roof of the cab. Tim and Marie start collecting. Nicole seems confused with the instrument making. Leo and Jamal show up and Leo takes on the task. But they do a bit of posturing and dancing as they come. More fun, but there's a point when it gets too much. It's good to have a laugh but you can't keep joking around when there's a task to be done and there are teams coming up behind you.
The Ice Girls unload their first load and head back to get the sugar cane. While Jason and Amy are coming with everything. I mean after they crash into each other. And Jason loses a watermelon or two. And some bananas. Tim and Marie arrive just as the girls leave the zoo. Nicole can't get her instrument done because she doesn't understand an octave means eight notes. she only has four. The Exes and the Daters feed their elephants and take off, knowing that the Ice Girls have to still get their sugar. So that one hour delay for missing the train is gone.
Nicole is still having trouble while Leo seems to be finished. Leo stands around, triumphantly holding his Anglung to the cheering crowd. Even Jamal knows enough is enough and yells at him to get going instead of posing. Nicole takes hers for inspection and fails. Leo does the same and thinks he passes, dances around for a bit, but he fails as well. Oops got ahead of himself. So back to fix it.
And then Jason and Amy, and Tim and Marie arrive. Marie says they usually switched Roadblocks between legs but something about this one convinces her that it's a music thing and since Tim plays piano, guitar and other things, he should do it. So he says sure. Which is probably a good thing. The Ice Girls finally get their sugar, feed the elephant and move on. But they're now in last place.
Nicole tries the judges again but no such luck. Leo gets his done, passes and gets his clue. But he's too busy celebrating and Jamal is shouting for him to destroy it. Nicole sees an opportunity and attempts to sneak a peek at Leo's successful instrument. She's trying to set a good example for her kids, to show that they can win the race with honour and truth to their God by trying to sneak a peek at Leo's. And to ask for help from those you condemned in the previous leg. I guess she's forgiven him for lying to them now that she needs his help. Always happens that way. But part of the mistake is on Leo. He was so concerned with posing and celebrating and hugging all the kids that he didn't think he should destroy his thing before someone else saw. Even so, all the crap from the Docs, about running an honest race, blah, blah, blah, was a lot of blah, blah, blah.
Leo still doesn't get it. Instead of going to his brother and reading the clue, one which should send them to the pitstop, he runs around like a mad man, posing and celebrating. If I did this too much I hope Gord would give me a slap across the back of the head. Finally, they read the clue. Yes, to the pitstop at the Bosscha Observatory. If the boys don't come in first, it's Leo's fault.
And it could be close cause Tim is done. He gets his clue and heads out fast, right behind the Afghanimals. Travis is very frustrated cause Nicole doesn't get it. But it's Leo and Jamal in first, with Tim and Marie coming up to the mat right behind him. That was a lot closer than I expected. Probably closer than the Afghanimals expected. But I don't think they'll learn. Or maybe Jamal has and will have a talk with his cousin.
It's getting worse for the Docs cause Amy gets it the Roadblock done and the Ice Girls have shown up. So Amy help them out but Jason has had enough. He wants to read the clue and leave the Docs behind. I appreciate you want to help a team out but it's a race; time to move on. Nothing personal but if Nicole can't get it, then too bad. But if she does get it with Amy's help, they better let the Daters step on the mat first. That would be the right thing to do.
Finally Nicole gets it and thanks god. No, Nicole, you thank Amy, she helped you. And then Travis starts ragging on her about not getting it cause she doesn't understand music like him. Not very Christian of him, belittling his wife, making her feel worse.
I'm reminded of Holly and Brett the Doc from Amazing Race Canada. Holly lost it under pressure and bunch of times but at no time did Brett belittle her for anything. He supported her no matter what. So nice example you're setting for your kids, Travis by being a dick to your wife.
Jason and Amy arrive at the mat as Team #3 and the Docs come up behind as Team #4. Finally, Nicole thanks Amy for saving her ass. And Travis is pissed off. And says more stuff, never mind...He's been a bit of a dick in this leg, all self-righteous about their goodness when they weren't very good.
But back at the pack are the Ice Girls. There's talk about being last and about having fun on the race, all this ending stuff. And it is the end for them. They are eliminated from the race. They were a nice team but they made a lot of mistakes and got a lot of help from the Afghanimals. Of course, if Nicole was left to her own devices, the Ice Girls might probably still be in it.
Next week, awww crap, they stay in Bandung for another leg? Can't we just move on?
