A Bit About Gord & Wayne
Who are Gord and Wayne?
Gordon L Gale (Gord) and Wayne Arthurson (Wayne) are two friends, one of them an illustrator and graphic designer, the other a writer of crime novels and other things. They are two stay-at-home dads who love to go out, drink beer, eat chicken wings, have an all-round good time. And they are also big fans of Amazing Race cause it's one of the few reality programs in which you're pretty much in control of your own fate. You don't need to form any alliances (although it can't hurt to be friendly with other teams and sometimes help), you don't need to have a perfect voice, you don't need to impress some dude that screams a lot in the kitchen, or some guy with a bad toupee, or anyone else. You just need read the clues and race to the best of your abilities. Although a decent cab driver and the ability to drive stick helps.
When Amazing Race Canada appeared in 2013, Gord said to Wayne at a beer night: "We should apply." So they did. But they did not get chosen. So at another beer night, Gord said to Wayne: "We should blog about Amazing Race Canada. We're going to talk about it anyway so why not share our opinions with the rest of the world." Since Wayne likes to share his opinion with the rest of the world, especially in a written form, he thought it was a great idea.
And thus this blog was born. Our reviews were honest and straight forward. If we saw something we liked, we mentioned it. If we saw something we didn't, we mentioned it. And since we're fun-loving guys, the reviews also reflected that. They also revealed more about ourselves than the race. People started reading. Teams started reading, and commenting. Producers started reading, and commenting. We got a mention in the media. Amazing Race Canada with Gord and Wayne became one of the most popular, if not the most popular fanblog for Amazing Race Canada.
In 2014, we contacted CTV and asked if they would consider Gord and Wayne to be media for Season 2. They said yes and we had interviews with host Jon Montgomery, eliminated teams and the winners Mickey and Pete. We even added video recaps. More fans, more readers, loads of fun. Later, Wayne added some of his travel stuff and Gord started to review Survivor and a few other things.
2015 came and went with more reviews ,including Season 3 of Amazing Race Canada which we didn't get on as a team. Gord did, and then stayed silent about his cameo performance for months, but it wasn't the same. We will continue to review the shows we enjoy, and we hope to add other surprises as the site grows. Hopefully everyone reading will enjoy the journey as much as we do.
Next it was 2016 and we were still here reviewing The Amazing Race Canada, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Big Brother Canada, and pretty much whatever else interested us. It may be time to create a new site to expand our interests but for now we just keep plugging away. Buckle up, because it's time for us to get started on our 2017 reviews!
