When they get to the train station they discover that the first train will arrive in Vienna at 6:40am. the first five teams all end up on this train but the last two teams, the Afghanimals and the IceQueens, are almost 90 minutes behind. They missed the first train and end up on a second train. Of course there's a four and a half hour stopover in Warsaw, which they don't leave until almost 9:00pm, and the two groups meet up and close the gap so everyone's in the same place when they arrive in Vienna.
When all the teams arrive in Vienna it couldn't be easier to find a taxi who knows where the Opera House is. It's a pretty big draw in Vienna. It was even easier to find Rigoletto as he waited for them in the lobby then led them into the Opera House and up the stairs, and up some more stairs, and then up some more stairs, all the way to the top and into the costume department before handing them their next clues.
Detour: Light Brigade has teams dress up as servants and assemble an elaborate crystal chandelier to the satisfaction of the chamberlain who will give them their next clue, unless they screw it up in which case their hopes of finishing this Detour will come crashing down when the chamberlain hoists the chandelier up and then drops it to the floor. It's never actually stated that they can't try it again or that they will have to incur a penalty for not completing a task, or if they must then switch over to the other side, which is . . . Masquerade, which has teams wear an intricate mask and join a Viennese Ball then find the matching mask on the dance floor. There are subtle differences in the masks so teams will need to pay close attention to detail but I don't see the problem here. If Wayne and I were doing this we'd be in and out in no time, and it certainly saves watching a chandelier drop to the ground after all your hard work.
Pinky is pretty detail oriented, despite her annoying personality, and Tim & Marie complete the Detour first to maintain their lead position and are now on their way to the Wiener Sängerknaben for their next clue. Of course they first need to hunt down a taxi. I suppose they could have had their last one wait for them but it would have meant a five minute walk back.
The Bunnies complete the Detour 2nd, Leo & Jamal are 3rd, and Ally & Ashley are 4th. All three teams are out and into a cab in no time, while Tim & Marie are wandering about the streets of Vienna looking for a cab. Any cab. Even one who doesn't speak English at this point. These guys really have no luck with cabs.
Jason & Amy finally give up on the Fast Forward and head back to the dance floor an hour behind everyone else. The Oklahomans complete 5th, and Nicole & Travis are 6th. When Jason & Amy arrive and there are no other teams there they realize they're now in last place. No worries though, without everyone else in the way they managed to wrap it up pretty quickly.
The Afghanimals are the first to the Wiener Sängerknaben and get their clue for this week's Roadblock: Join The Choir, the Vienna Boys Choir that is, one member of the team must learn to sing Die Forelle by Schubert with the choir, and they need to sing it correctly in German. When the choirmaster feels they've put on a great performance he'll give them their next clue. The Vienna Boys Choir was founded in 1498 and watching the Oklahoman destroy the song was painful and probably had the founders turning in their graves.
Jason & Amy complete the Detour and hope to catch up to everyone. They took a big risk attempting the Fast Forward and it backfired on them, but I'm guessing they can sing better than OKTim. Brain's problem isn't really carrying the tune, but making the proper pronunciation. I'm surprised that Pinky didn't do this one as it's so unlike her to leave something to Brain.
OKTim is told by his instructor to imagine he's Justin Timberlake. That's going to take a lot of imagination but when that fails he says try to sing like an opera singer, then he says sing like a child, then he has him try to march in place as he sings. He seems to be getting better but not much.
Brain gives it a go, with Pinky's support for his weird memory, and though the kids laughed less he still failed. I like how he kept moving his hand to the rhythm but his pronunciation was off. Pinky tells him he made it further than anyone else but to go fix it and come back. Which is repeated by Jason (I think).
Back with the choir OKTim was terrible. I'm not even sure he made it to the second line. It was like somebody was stuffing a cat in a blender bad. Jamal however, despite his theatrics and still channelling the burgereister was very good and Leo & Jamal are outta there. The Afghanimals figure that because they didn't complete the Fast Forward Jason & Amy will be out, but did he not just hear OKTim sing? Brain nails it on his second attempt and he and Pinky head for the palace.
Amy gets her chance to sing just as Tim & Marie go in search of a cab. When they find Jason & Amy's cab with the bags on the ground outside of it they decide it's not their problem and take Jason & Amy's cab. Marie intends to tell them they saw the Afghanimals take their cab and Tim is like "When?" "Now." He's like, whatever and let's it slide. That should go over so well.
Amy nails it on her first attempt and gets the clue but as she and Jason go in search of their cab all they find are their "cabless" bags. Amy is pissed and rightly so, even though they did find another cab right away.
At Schönbrunn Palace Nicky & Kim manage to find the clue box in the maze first before Travis & Nicole and it looks like a footrace for the Pit Stop at the Gloriette, the centerpiece of the Schönbrunn Palace Garden, which is located at the top of the hill overlooking the garden. Travis & Nicole head into the Palace to ask directions while the Bunnies head elsewhere for directions and that's all the time they need.
Back to the choir where OKTim and Ally destroy the song again and again and again and . . . that poor, tortured choirmaster. And those poor children. Ally's 5th attempt was slow and methodical and finally . . . acceptable. They're off and leave the Oklahomans behind in last place but they're still not out, yet. On OKTim's 5th attempt the choirmaster finally gives in, probably just to save his hearing.
Ally & Ashley complete the maze and race up the hill to the Gloriette to become Team 6 and that leaves Tim & Danny as Team 7 and they have been eliminated from the race. They leave with memories to last a lifetime rather than a million bucks but they've enjoyed the run. Hopefully before they go home they spend some time exploring the palace because it's a beautiful place to see and the odds of the Oklahomans returning there are pretty slim.
Next week teams get to race in AbuDhabi. No seriously, they actually get to race in race cars on an actual track. That'd be so awesome. As Marie goes full throttle, Tim is pretty sure that she has some serious mental problems. He's just figured that out now? I thought that's why they're exes. See you all next week.
