Those five remaining teams spent the night on that boat rocking with the waves and Burnie admits that it was one of the most restful times he's had on the race. Sleeping on a boat on a calm night is definitely restful as the waves lull you to sleep but eventually you've gotta get up.
With Tyler & Korey first to the pirate ship Pit Stop on the last leg they're the first to depart at for Nusa Lembongan Island, Indonesia at 7:45 in the morning, and everyone is going to be right behind them. Apparently there are so many islands in Indonesia that if you were to visit one a day it would take nearly fifty years to see them all, so let's hope nobody gets lost. They'll find their next clue underwater in one of three clue boxes.
On the way to Nusa Lembongan Tyler & Korey discuss that, Kurt & Brodie bringing up the rear this may be the time to u-turn them. Burnie & Ashley are out only eight minutes behind and are proving to be the most consistent team in the race with their fourth second place finish. Everyone knows there's a u-turn ahead and now may be the time to use it offensively to ensure your team stays ahead. At this point in the race you can rest assured that Wayne and I would be using that u-turn.
Sheri & Cole are right on their wake and I'm actually surprised they're still in this. They've hit two non-elimination legs and an extended leg and it just feels like someone in production really likes them. Dana & Matt are next off the boat and she's sure someone is going to use that u-turn on another team. That team is likely going to be Kurt & Brodie who are the last to depart, an unusual position for them and they know they're a huge target.
Tyler & Korey are the first to the marker, don heir snorkelling gear and drop into the sea. There's some great underwater viewing around the clue box and it's good to be first because each clue box only held a couple of clues. If a team found the wrong clue box they'd have to look again and if any of these teams are afraid of water this could be a long task. Not so much for Korey who found the clue box right away and they headed back to the boat before any other teams arrived. As Tyler & Korey opened their clue Burnie & Ashley arrived.
All teams will be making their way to the bottom of the Pura Puseh Stairway where they'll need to find the dancing monkey to receive their next clue. As Tyler & Korey head off Burnie & Ashley drop into the water to find their clue. Both teams have obviously snorkelled before, which can be a huge advantage when you're not trying to avoid swallowing half the salt water around you. Burnie noted that these clues are like no clues the teams have ever seen before and that can add to some teams confusion.
Speaking of confused teams, here come Sheri & Cole. While Cole has no problem finding an empty clue box, Sheri is busy checking out the fish as Cole checks another clue box. He's expecting to find a laminated clue, not a cylinder, so he searches for the third clue box as Dana & Matt arrive. Cole finally figured out that those pipes in the third clue box aren't holding it down, they're the clue so he grabs one and heads beck up.
Kurt & Brodie didn't have to worry about looking for a marker when they could easily see the other boats and when they saw Dana & Matt still swimming around they knew they had to get this done fast so they were into the water and heading for the clue box. Matt had grabbed a canister out of a clue box before they arrived but he had no idea that it was the clue so he and Dana kept looking. When Kurt bumped into Matt in the water Matt asked if the canister was the clue and that told Kurt all he needed to know so he dove back down and grabbed one. Not Matt's finest moment.
As Kurt & Brodie exit the water and race away, Dana & Matt are still wondering whether they have a clue or not and, as per usual, Dana starts snapping at Matt. While she keeps snapping, Tyler & Korey and Burnie & Ashley arrive at the shore of the Bali High Resort where they need to find marked trucks which will take them to the Pura Puseh Stairway.
As Kurt & Brodie start reading their clue Dana & Matt take a break from the water and Dana is pretty sure there are no clues left. That's a bit defeatist for someone who's made it so far in the race but she does tend to look for the cloud cover. Even worse when Matt is holding a clue in his hand and just doesn't realize it. Eventually Matt figures out the clue but they're now in last place. These two need to stop doubting everything they do and stop messing up their own race.
As Dana & Matt play catch-up, Sheri & Cole hit the shore with Kurt & Brodie close behind just as Tyler & Korey arrive at the stairway. They get their pretty pink sarongs, a length of fabric wrapped at the waist like a skirt, and then race up the stairs in search of the dancing monkey. The costumes on the performers at he top are beautiful but fortunately the dancing monkey is not a real monkey, but a guy in a monkey costume. Probably just as well since monkeys aren't exactly known for sharing.
Time for the Detour; Haul or Harvest. In Harvest teams must use a traditional canoe to follow a marked course and harvest seaweed from the sea then bring it back to shore and lay it out to dry on a large tarp to get their next clue and a little seaweed face cream. In Haul teams must hand deliver 50 coconuts and four live chickens over a rickety suspension bridge to get their next clue. My guess is that Wayne and I would probably choose harvest rather than a lot of back and forth over a bridge.
Tyler & Korey however choose Haul and as Burnie & Ashley get their next clue from the dancing monkey, they also choose Haul. Teams are once again reminded of the upcoming u-turn and with Dana & Matt now in the rear someone is definitely going to be in for a surprise. Speaking of which, they've finally arrived at the Bali High Resort and are on their way to find the dancing monkey.
As Tyler & Korey head to the bridge Korey agrees to grab the chickens while Tyler will start on the coconuts and when they arrive they're shown where to find their coconuts and where to grab their chickens. Burnie & Ashley have the same conversation and Ashley agrees to deal with the chickens. As Korey noted, it's good to be first because when he and Ashley arrive at the chicken coop there are a lot of chickens to choose from, but as other teams start to grab their chickens the birds are going to become harder to deal with.
That's a really long bridge and even before Burnie & Ashley get there Burnie is dropping coconuts. He figures at least ten trips with four coconuts per trip will do it but that's still going to take a lot of time. Yeah, I would definitely have chosen Harvest.
Sheri & Cole arrive at the stairway closely followed by Kurt & Brodie and both teams get their sarongs and head up to the dancing monkey. Coles a good son carrying his mothers backpack up those stairs because that weight would definitely slow down Sheri going up and down those stairs. Both Sheri & Cole and Kurt & Brodie choose Haul.
Meanwhile the first to deliver for Haul are Tyler & Korey with 2 chickens and 4 coconuts. This is going to be a long detour, especially when every time someone passes you that bridge bounces like a mini-trampoline. Burnie & Ashley make their first drop with 2 chickens and 5 coconuts and that's as far as I'm going with keeping tabs on the numbers. As they head back across the bridge, Dana & Matt get their sarongs and meet the dancing monkey and they also choose Haul, . . . which is kind of interesting when all teams choose the same side of a Detour without any idea what other teams have chosen. Why would Haul sound easier than Harvest to everyone?
Back at the bridge Sheri grabs the chickens while Cole grabs the coconuts. Right behind them are Kurt & Brodie who both grab two chickens to get those out of the way first. That's actually a pretty good plan and might help them to make up some more time because they need to get through this quickly if they're going to avoid being u-turned.
As Dana & Matt near the bridge Dana is a little concerned about holding the chickens because she only knows how to hold a chicken after its cooked. That's not going to be an option here, but it does remind me that I don't recall any food tasks yet. Being last to the coop, Dana is having a bit of trouble finding any easy to catch chickens but she manages to grab one and decides she's only doing one at a time. That won't slow them down at all, but at least she grabs a coconut for balance.
As Kurt & Brodie cross that long bridge Kurt starts dropping all his coconuts and when Brodie turns to see what's going on there go a few of his, then a few more. It's at this point that I wonder why nobody bothers to use their shirt to carry those coconuts, either by just curling it up from the bottom or removing it and using it like a sack. They'd have a lot more control over the load.
Tyler & Korey are way ahead on this one and they've noticed that all of the teams are on the same task so they know they're in first place with only one more trip across to go. There go Matt's coconuts while Dana is busy chatting with her chicken. When they get back across Dana decides that only the mean chickens are left but really they're just agitated by all these giants in their coop. Whenever Matt says anything sheepskin telling him to shut up and once again I'm thinking this guy needs an award.
As Tyler & Korey finish their deliveries they get their next clue and are on their way to Warung Sunshine where they'll find the Double U-Turn, and with only two legs left it's fairly obvious someone is getting u-turned. While they head off the other teams are still being really supportive of each other back on the bridge but we all know that's going to change.
Tyler & Korey arrive at the Warung Sunshine and find out it's a double u-turn and after a bit of back and forth discussion decide to u-turn Kurt & Brodie because as much as they love the frisbee boys they are the biggest threat in the game to Tyler & Korey winning it all. With that decision made they open their next clue and must now make their way to the Paddleboard Shop to find their next clue.
As Tyler & Korey search for the Paddleboard Shop, Burnie & Ashley complete the Detour and head to the Warung Sunshine knowing exactly where they are in pack and hoping that Tyler & Korey didn't u-turn them. Speaking of which, Tyler & Korey are having doubts about their decision because if Burnie & Ashley u-turn either Sheri & Cole or the dancers, Kurt & Brodie will still be in the race and it will make them a target. It's a little late to worry about that now, and in the end Kurt & Brodie know it's a game and hopefully won't take it personally.
When Burnie & Ashley arrive at Warung Sunshine and realize it's a double u-turn they're glad that the boys didn't u-turn them and then they talk it through and decide that the best thing to do was to u-turn Tyler & Korey who are already ahead of them, thus removing the chance that Kurt & Brodie can u-turn anyone to make up time. They also figure that if Kurt & Brodie survive the u-turn they'll be mad at Tyler & Korey, not them.
It's a good plan because Kurt & Brodie are done at Haul and off they go to Warung Sunshine. They don't think that Burnie & Ashley would ever u-turn them but they're not so sure about Tyler & Korey. Meanwhile, Tyler & Korey arrive at the beach and get directions to the Paddleboard Shop and get their next clue.
Time for the Roadblock; A Drop in the Ocean . . . a four storey leap into the blue lagoon. Where's Brooke Shields when you need her? One team member needs to scale the cliffs to the top and then jump off from into the water below. This is definitely going to test everyone's fear of heights.
When Kurt & Brodie arrive at Warung Sunshine they find they've been u-turned by Tyler & Korey and that Burnie & Ashley u-turn the team ahead to stop Kurt & Brodie from using the u-turn on anyone behind them. They're not impressed with either of the lead teams but it's definitely a testament to how much of a threat Kurt & Brodie are in the race.
Kurt & Brodie head to the other side of the Detour and arrive at Harvest realizing that they need to move quickly to stay in the race, even with Dana only carrying one coconut at a time. As they get started on Harvest they're hoping they can do this in one shot as Sheri & Cole finish Haul and head to Warung Sunshine where they're so glad not to have been u-turned.
Kurt & Brodie were fairly quick gathering the seaweed but not so good maneuvering their canoe. They find the tarps and the example and then begin begin spreading seaweed as we cut back to the bridge to find Dana & Matt with their last delivery. It's good to see Dana a little more calmed down at the end of a task than she is at the start, but Kurt & Brodie are still in the middle of their second task as they head out for more seaweed.
Like most of the other teams Dana & Matt find they weren't u-turned and are really happy that they're still in it. Now all they have to do is stay ahead of Kurt & Brodie in their search for the Roadblock. Which is where we find Sheri & Cole as vile decides to do the Roadblock, only to realize that it means he's going to have to jump off the cliff and Cole is afraid of heights. Sheri is now all apologetic that she didn't choose this one but it could be the only saving grace that Kurt & Brodie have left.
This could be the end for Kurt & Brodie, but Tyler & Korey did not use the u-turn just so that Cole could refuse to jump and be passed by Brodie because that would put a target on them. As they arrive at the Roadblock, tyler gets hauled across the water to the base of the cliff where he finds a free-hanging ladder leading out of the water and begins his ascent.
As Burnie & Ashley arrive and Ashley follows Tyler to the ladder, Korey yells across to see if Burnie & Ashley u-turned them and when Burnie confirms that Korey thanks him for it because they were hoping that's how it would play out. It's good to have a plan, especially one that works without any actual discussion.
When Tyler gets to the top he's put through a few stretches with an instructor and while he's happily being manhandled Kurt & Brodie complete Harvest and head off to catch up to the other teams. It may be too late for that though because not only do they need to catch up, but they need to pass somebody and that's going to be hard to do as Dana & Matt arrive at the Roadblock and Matt chooses to do it.
At the top of the cliff Tyler is told "off you go" and he's not so sure he's ready for that but Tyler stands at the edge . . . gives a thumbs up to Korey, . . . and jumps. Forty feet of freefall with a bit of a rough landing but he's good to go and as he returns to Korey on the boat they get their next clue as Ashley reaches the instructor at the top.
All teams will now be on their way to the next Pit Stop at the Bajra Sandhi monument where they'll find Phil and the last team may be eliminated. As Tyler & Korey head to the monument, Kurt & Brodie have just opened the Roadblock clue, which Brodie has to do and Ashley walks to the edge of the cliff. She was looking awfully calm as she walked out but once she was at the end there was a bit of hesitation before she goes over the end. She hit a little less than straight but as she surfaces she gives a thumbs up and she heads back to the boat.
Everyone is counting on Cole jumping or the plan to eliminate Kurt & Brodie is done and Ashley says that, if Cole doesn't jump she's going to kill him. That seems a little aggressive for Ashley but we get the point. It's a valid concern because they all remember how afraid he was back in the alps and if he doesn't jump Kurt & Brodie will have a serious burn on to stay ahead of everyone on the last two legs.
As Cole gets hauled over to the ladder Sheri shouts encouragement because she knows he needs to jump. As Cole reaches the ladder, Dana & Matt arrive and Matt transfers to the board to join Cole. By this point Cole has managed to make his way to the top simply by not looking down. Good plan. As he goes through his stretches, Matt climbs the ladder and Burnie & Ashley have almost caught up to Tyler & Korey in a race for the Pit Stop.
Cole knows it's only forty feet and while his mom waits with a camera to take a picture, Cole conquers his fear and jumps. Even Dana is proud of Cole for doing it as she waits for Matt to take the plunge. When Matt hit the water he hit it more with his butt than his feet but when he surfaced and the guy asked if he was okay he answered, "good enough". Way to power through boys.
Back on land Burnie & Ashley go one way while Tyler & Korey go the other and Brodie jumps into the blue lagoon. It's going to be tight because they're now dependant on another team making a wrong turn to the monument.
Tyler & Korey are. Little concerned that this could be Burnie & Ashley's first first, but in a foot race to the Pit Stop Tyler & Korey are Team Number 1 and have also won a also win a seven night Alaskan cruise. Right on their heels Burnie & Ashley are once again Team Number 2. That makes five second place finishes in a row, . . . talk about consistent.
In a race to find taxis, Dana & Matt are Team Number 3 and thank the others for not u-turning them and then Sheri & Cole arrive as Team Number 4 and everyone wonders who hit the u-turn board third, only to realize it was Kurt & Brodie. None of them want to be at the mat when the frisbee boys arrive so they get out of there in a hurry.
As everyone races off Kurt & Brodie are the last team to arrive and they have been eliminated from the race. They knew Tyler & Korey were going to u-turn them but they were disappointed in Burnie & Ashley. They took it well and Brodie has decided that maybe he'll spend a few days in L.A. after the race to say "hi" to a few people. Or maybe just one person in particular as Kurt shakes his head and smiles while production brings up a dreamy picture of Blair. Who knows, they might actually work out, as long as her daddy approves.
Next week the final four teams fight to stay alive as they look like they're going from Indonesia to Paris before they return to the States. It's going to be one heck of a race and I'll be right here to recap it in my usual verbose fashion. Until that time.
