Teams leave Peru for Dallas. All four teams are on the same plane but Mike and Rochelle are first into a cab and off to Big Corporation Named Stadium. Other teams are close behind. It's a Roadblock, something about making a play so all the dudes jump on it. It's a fun task, the racer has to suit up in a football uniform, get hoisted to the top of Big Corporation Named Stadium, grab and playbook and then do a couple of plays. Actually, they only have to catch a pass in the end zone and then kick the extra point. Fans of TAR Canada will have deja vu because save for the hoisting, the pass then kick task was one side of the Detour in the Regina leg in Season 1. Probably one of the toughest legs in TAR history. Remember the lentils? That was only the beginning.
Well, all the dudes have fun but Mike can't catch a ball. So that allows Tyler to pass him and kick the extra point. Extra points also for Tyler to celebrate his touchdown with a spike. He was having fun with that. So would I cause this kind of sporting task would be mine. Gord's not a sporting guy. He's a good sport but not sporty. Blair makes his catch, so does Mike followed by Jelani. Is it me or did Jelani drop his handheld camera on the way down and say "Sorry"?Seemed liked it. Speaking of sorry, how about that TAR Canada commercial during the breaks up here in the Great White North? Funny stuff. Jon is really getting into this TAR Canada host bit. A bit more life than Phil.
Anyway, Tyler, followed by Blair, kicks the ball through the uprights and they have to head out to some ranch. Tyler and Laura's cabbie doesn't know the way. But Blair and Hayley's does and tells his buddies that he does. Tip to future racers: when you ask you cab to wait, make a deal with them not to share anyinformation with other cabbies, even though they may know each other. This comes into play later in the show. So Doc and Nurse wait cause they don't want to be followed. Totally dumb move. Who cares if they follow as long as you're in the lead? Playing some kind of game of chicken only wastes time. And so much time that Mike and Jelani finish their kicks and all the teams are heading to their cabs. So now you got three teams right behind Hayley and Blair.
Wait, only two more because Mike and Rochelle asked their cab to wait but he didn't. So they have no cab. Sure, you could call this a bad cab situation but what they should have done is tell their cab to call them another one so when they come out, they're not running around looking for one. That's gonna cost them.
Off to the Ranch and teams must climb aboard a couple of horses and help with a cattle roundup. This isn't really a task more of a ride the horse and follow the crowd. Some of horses are a bit spirited, but the teams get the task done pretty much in order of arrival. See Hayley and Blair, should have left the stadium instantly. And the cabbie mistake has cost Mike and Rochelle. Again, it looks like bad cab situation but since they didn't get their other cabbie to call for a replacement, they found one on the street. And since he's been driving around for awhile, he's out of gas and they have to backtrack to fill er up. By the time they get to the ranch, Phil is there to eliminate them. They were an okay team, down to earth and the underdogs but overall they never captured my support as other underdog teams have done. To be truthful, none of the teams really did this season.
From the ranch teams have to find Reunion Tower and it's another Roadblock for the person who didn't play football. So all the women take it. In this task, they have to rappel down the tower while looking for the next clue. Hayley's heading down the tower and thinks she sees a clue box on top of a parkade. So that's where they head to. Or at least they try to cause it's not easy finding a faraway building from that kind of height. Once you get on the ground, things are different.
Makes no difference because it's the wrong place. The clue is actually a whole bunch of flags with TAR colours. And Laura and Jenny work together to find them. And you could blame Hayley and say she made a dumb mistake, but Jenny almost made the same one. If Laura wasnt with her, they would have been parkade hopping. So they head to a huge field filled with Monster Trucks. Great fun. They have to drive one of the trucks across a bog. Then they have to find a locked shed with their names on it. On that shed are the names of four locations and the combination to open the lock corresponds with the number of the leg those places were. Laura and Tyler were first across the bog but struggle with the lock. That allows Team JJ to catch up. And they open the lock pretty fast.
Inside the shed are a bunch of selfies that also correspond with locations in the race. Teams must put these selfies in order following the route of the race. Jenny and Jelani struggle with this a bit, but Laura and Tyler work a system. She finds the selfies in the proper order and he puts them up. But on their first pass they are wrong. With Jenny and Jelani right behind them. Laura tells Tyler to read the clue, no shit Sherlock, in order to fix things. And yep, he's put one in the wrong spot. He fixes and they are off, back to the Monster truck driving across the bog. Not much of a memory task in the end.
Okay, bit of a stop here. All teams get this task done and get to drive the Monster Truck back. But why did none of the women drive the truck on the return trip. I know my race partner is Gord but if I did the race with my wife, she would love to drive that Monster Truck. And I would give her a turn. Maybe I'm just overthinking.
So Laura and Tyler finish first and jump into their cab. They have to get to the Continental Bridge for the final mat. But their cabbie doesn't know where it is. And this is why you always tell your cabbie to never share info with the other cabs. Because Jenny and Jelani's cabbie tells Laura and Tyler's cab where to go. If he didn't, they would have had to follow Team JJ to the bridge and there would be a foot race to the mat. And based on what I've seen in this season, Jenny and Jelani would have easily won that race.
But it's Laura and Tyler who win. Hurray for them but again, don't care. In fact, this is the first recap I've written about this season in which I actually remembered their names; I didn't have to go to the TAR site to confirm it. Jenny and Jelani are second and Hayley and Blair never make up that mistake and end up third. Phil asks again about love in the race but we all know the answer: no chancey Mr Whalen. (If you're from Calgary from a certain time, you know what that expression means).
So the dating couple season is finally over. Time to move on.
And as the commercials on Canadian TV noted, TAR Canada starts in July. Gord and I will be picking up the pace for the blog when that happens. Along with our written recaps, we'll have video recaps. This year, we're going to be on location at some local Edmonton bar to make things interesting. Beer always makes things interesting when Gord and Wayne are involved. All. Ways. We're also pretty sure we'll have eliminated team interviews (if I have the time, I might even put up some audio from these). And we're working on finding a racer from Season 2 who will comment on Season 3. Once we finalize all that, we'll let you know.
So look for us in Season 3 of TAR Canada.
